Sarah, how absurd that men not even in a relationship with you feel free to comment on your clothing. Why don't you tell them that unless they plan to pay for your wardrobe, they can keep their opinions to themselves?

Very good point. And that is generally my policy.
I too find skirts uncomfortable sometimes (depending on the skirt) -- but not as uncomfortable as most trousers -- so I can understand your reaction to the idea of being expected to wear skirts all the time. They can certainly be jolly cold in the winter, even here in mild England. I do have a skirt that is almost floor length, and very comfortable as well as warm, and also washable and elegant. I wish I could find more like it!

Well for a start, some of them would be more than delighted to pay for my wardrobe, so that would not solve anything. (And can you imagine how many comments and requests they would feel able to make if they had paid for my clothes?! It doesn't bear thinking about!)
